Event for the first time in Latin America from Jun 27 - Jul 1
Porto Alegre will be home to the TERMIS Americas Workshop 2018, an event whose purpose is to disseminate cutting-edge research on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, from Jun 27 to Jul 1. This is the first time the event is held in the Latin America. In partnership with PUCRS, it will take place at the Events Center of BarraShoppingSul and will bring together people from all over the country as well as nationally and internationally-recognized specialists and researchers.
Presenting a very comprehensive program, it will address relevant issues for the medical community both nationally and internationally, such as: 3D bioprinting and the development of technologies for biofabrication of organs both in Brazil and all over the world; biomaterials with focus on regenerative medicine; tissue regeneration with focus on spinal cord injury, spheroids as experimental models, iPS cells, among others. “All these technologies will, sooner or later, be part of people’s lives in large scale”, says the event’s president and the only member of the TERMIS in Latin America, Patricia Pranke.
The event will feature Wake Forest School of Medicine professor, Dr. James Yoo as one of the guests. He joined the surgery team of surgeon Anthony Atala, who performed the first tissue-engineered urethral reconstruction surgery on the planet. Other guests include: Dr William Wagner, director of McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine; Francisco Benavides MD, Associate Researcher at Miller School of Medicine of University of Miami, and the Vice-President of TERMIS and director of Brazil’s main 3D printing center, Dr Jorge Vicente Lopes, among other renowned scientists. One of the highlights of the event will be the presence of former Olympic gymnast Laís de Souza, who will talk about her recovery and quadriplegia treatments.
