Event at no charge from Oct 19-22 in several parts of Porto Alegre
PUCRS will be opening its doors to the first edition of the Literary Spring of Brazil from Oct 19-22. The event is open to the community at no charge and will feature national and international guests. The program will include readings, debates, workshops and literary actions on Campus and in other areas of Porto Alegre, for three days.
The Printemps Littéraire Brésilien was conceived by Brazilian Literature scholar of Sorbonne, Dr Leonardo Tonus, and had its first edition in 2014. Since then, it has occurred every year in Paris. Many writers, plastic artists, cartoon artists, drama play writers and choreographers of Brazil have taken part in lectures, debates, soirées, readings, workshops and book releases.

Oct 19 – 9:30 AM
Journey of Contemporary Poetry – It will include performances and readings given by some of the most popular poets of contemporary poetry in Brazil. They will be talking about their books, their creative processes and the topics they discuss in their works. Alice Sant’Anna, Ana Martins Marques, Angélica Freitas, Cristiane Sobral, Eduardo Sterzi, Eliane Marques, Juliana Perdigão, Leonardo Tonus, Marco de Menezes and Roy David Frankel are some of the poets who will be there.

Oct 20 – Several workshops all over Porto Alegre (from 3 PM to 6 PM)

Moroccan writer and filmmaker Abdellah Taïa will be talking about being a foreigner in Etranger à soi-même
Where: Fora da Asa – Rua José do Patrocínio, 642 – Cidade Baixa
On the same day, at 8 PM, Fora da Asa will open its doors to Noitada da Jornada de Poesia Contemporânea (Evening of Contemporary Poetry).

Leonardo Tonus and Natalia Borges Polesso will be mediating a talk with Moroccan writer and filmmaker Abdellah Taïa, who will end the Printemps Littéraire Brésilien with a book signing of Ele que é digno de amar, a novel that was published in 2017 to be released in Brazil by Nós.

About the Literary Spring
As a response to the tribute France paid to Brazil in 2005, with the Year of Brazil in France, Sorbonne professor, Dr Leonardo Tonus, decided to create a movement that had consequences in the Literary Spring of Brazil. “I welcomed Brazilian and Portuguese writers to my classes in an effort to disseminate contemporary literature as a teaching activity, to arouse interest in students. As the number of visits saw an increase after I used my own dynamics, in 2014, I decided to implement a week dedicated to Brazil at the university and invited some authors. Students were very welcoming to it and then I created an event I named Festival or Literary Spring. It had an educational perspective and was designed with and for students, as they helped me organize it, choose and assist the writers”, adds Tonus.
