Consul General of Paraguay visits PUCRS

Diplomat was welcomed by President and visited BraIns

PUCRS opened its doors to the Consul General of Paraguay for Porto Alegre, Mr José Martínez Lezcano, on Jun 19. Lezcano, who has been the Consul since 2017, was welcomed at the Great Hall by the President Br. Dr Evilázio Teixeira. The Paraguayan authority expressed his interest in working together with the state of Rio Grande do Sul, especially in projects in the area of education.

During his visit, Dr Teixeira talked about his recent visit to Argentina, where he attended the Third Regional Conference of Higher Education of Latin America and Caribbean (Cres 2018), as several authorities from Latin America met in Córdoba, Argentina. According to Br. Evilázio, the topics that were addressed at the conference re-stressed the need for urgent and emerging cooperation between Latin American countries. He also reiterated his wish to work together with Latin American countries to achieve unity and find joint solutions for problems.

The Dean of International Cooperation, Dr Heloísa Orsi Koch Delgado, and the Head of the President’s Office, Mr Alexander Bernardes Goulart were also present at the meeting. After the welcome at the Great Hall, the ambassador also paid a visit to the Brain Institute of Rio Grande do Sul, as he had the chance to learn more about the study center. Lezcano was welcomed by Mrs Cristina Appel Friedrich, a nurse who serves as the Institute’s administrative and assistance supervisor. The Consul visited the Center for Production of Radiopharmaceuticals, as he could see the production of substances used in imaging exams conducted at BraIns.
