More than 50 professionals joined forces at PUCRS to discuss the skills that are needed for smart and sustainable cities on Aug 19. The workshop was delivered in support of the project Strengthening Governance Capacity for Smart Sustainable Cities (CAP4CITY), funded by Erasmus+ Capacity Building. This is the 7th face-to-face meeting promoted by the project. Previous sessions have been held in Argentina, Chile and Colombia.

The international project features 12 universities from 8 countries, including PUCRS, through its Business School. This Monday’s event was attended by researchers, professionals from local government authorities, representatives of NGOs and civil associations. The coordinator of the project at PUCRS, Professor Dr Edimara Mezzomo Luciano claims that the lecture sought to identify collective competences that will guide educational programs on smart and sustainable cities.

The coordinator of the project, Gabriela Viale, from Danube University Krems, in Austria, made her presence felt at the event and joined a welcome session at the Office for International Cooperation. At the time, the researcher had the opportunity to learn more about PUCRS and introduce the audience to the CAP4CITY initiatives.

The main goal of the project is to develop an 80-hour massive open online course (MOOC) on smart and sustainable cities. It will be available on the EdX platform at no charge in three languages: English, Portuguese and Spanish.
